Ministries

Jesus calls his disciples to address the concerns and conditions of the people in our community and across the world. As we reach out to people in their need, we must continue to be involved in spreading the gospel through service in the world. The church looks for needs in the community and the world and then seeks to meet those needs through ministries. "The outreach ministries of the church shall give attention to local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice, and advocacy".

All of the small groups at Walnut Grove fall under one of these four categories: Nurture, Outreach, Witness and Worship. (click on an area to be taken there)

Being a disciple of Jesus Christ is more than a one time decision to follow after Jesus. It takes a lifetime of commitment, faith, and growth. Spending time studying the bible, learning to communicate with God, and discovering the wonderful ways God is active in this world makes the Christian life exciting. The church is responsible to help people discover more and more about the "amazing grace" of which we sing. Walnut Grove offers programs and helps teach people in the church and community how to grow in the spiritual life and become better equipped for life as Christian disciples. The church must show love to one another and offer times for fellowship, companionship, and support.

Nurture Work Area

The primary task of the Nurture work area will be to address the concerns and conditions of people in the congregation and community so that they may grow in the spiritual life and become better equipped for life as Christian disciples.

As we reach out to people in their need, we must continue to be involved in spreading the gospel through service in the world. "The outreach ministries of the church shall give attention to local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice, and advocacy." (Paragraph 252.2b)

Witness Work Area

The primary task is to ensure that the congregation reaches out to people in the community with the good news of Jesus Christ and receives them into its care so that these people may develop a relationship with God and live as Christian disciples. This involves looking for avenues to share the gospel in meaningful ways and being ready to offer "radical hospitality", accepting all people as they are because that is the way God accepts us. In her witness ministry, the church realizes growth is necessary to fulfill the ministry of making disciples. It recognizes that not all will respond positively to the gospel, but we continue to extend the invitation just as it was extended to us.

Worship Work Area

The primary task of the work area on worship is to work with the pastor and music leaders to ensure the congregation provides opportunities for worship that will help people develop and strengthen their relationship with God and will help them live more faithfully as Christian disciples. Worship is God centered and through services of worship people encounter the living God.
